There are 2 positions available for the preparation of a doctoral thesis at the Laboratory of Wireless and Mobile Telecommunications Systems which can be fully funded (or partially for those working) by relevant research projects in the period 2025-2027. The preparation of the thesis could be carried out partially and remotely.

Description of the subject of the 1st position

The doctoral research concerns the development of algorithms and techniques for ensuring quality of service (QoS) or quality of experience (QoE) in ultra-dense wireless networks through the corresponding KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) specified for the upcoming 6th generation networks.

In addition, machine learning techniques will be used to support the studied and developed techniques. Finally, the equipment and software packages of the Wireless and Mobile Telecommunications Systems laboratory will be used to develop and operate testbeds (testbeb) for M2M (machine to machine) networks to validate the proposed mechanisms.

Description of the subject of the 2nd position

Future approaches to network architecture (e.g. 6G) introduce new capabilities such as disaggregation and facilitate resource sharing for better utilization, energy efficiency and cost minimization. Such features allow network operators to dynamically activate/deactivate specific elements or even large parts of the network according to their needs.

The doctoral research concerns the development of algorithms and techniques to support the optimization – in terms of energy consumption and resource utilization – of the provision of multimedia services in future networks. It will also examine the case of sharing resources between two operators, using DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) to ensure that all details of the agreement (described in a Service Level Agreement) are stored in an immutable ledger for their strict adherence.

Desired candidate qualifications

Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering or relevant equivalent with integrated MSc or Degree in Information Technology and Telecommunications or relevant with MSc in the area of Telecommunications and Networks

Desirable experience in: Matlab, Python, network modeling packages and machine learning techniques.
